Basic Scope Adjustment
By Tactical Operations Group
Starting with the scopes reticle adjustment:
Reticle Clarity Looking through the scope at a white wall, plain index card or the sky. Loosen the eyepiece locking ring and turn the eyepiece until the reticle is clearest. Don’t stare at the reticle because the eye will compensate for an out of focus object, take quick glances. After you have the reticle focused come off the scope and look at the sky or plain wall to allow your eye to readjust. Recheck reticle clarity and adjust if necessary. Ensure that you re-secure the locking ring.
Eye Relief Loosen scope ring screws and mount the weapon system. Take up a normal shooting position ensure that you have a good cheekweld. Push the scope as far forward as possible; slowly pull it rearward until the maximum field of view is established. Reach up and hold downward pressure on the scope and now tighten the screws alternating from side to side. Ensure that the ring gap is equal on each side.
Note: On variable power scopes this process is performed on the highest power.
Note: Check for cant at this point
Adjustable Objective Lens The shooter estimates the distance of the target and turns the objective to the corresponding yardage. if the distance is under 100 yards turn the focus ring counter clockwise, clockwise for distances over 100 yards. the scope should be parallax free, check by moving your head slightly up and down while looking through the scope, slightly turn the focus ring each way until the target no longer moves behind the reticle.
Note: On mk4 scopes adjustment knob, the larger “dot” is used for closer distances while the lazy 8 is for greater distances, parallax is adjusted as above.
