CGA5
Carl Gustaf Assault
Rifle
Armed conflicts are
tending more and more towards built-up areas. The enemy soldier is
now better protected. He can be transported by armored vehicles,
supported by armed helicopters and carries body armor consisting
of ten or twelve layers of para-aramid fabric.
His support and protection gives him great freedom of action.
All this can be seen by the defender as an intensification of the all-round
threat development. It can only be countered by a weapon with a performance
that more than matches the increase in protection levels. Such a weapon must
also be small and light, for the sake of mobility, have a high rate of fire
and can function in all climatic conditions.
The Carl Gustaf Assault Rifle, CGA5
meets all requirements regarding weight, compactness, high rate of
fire and effectiveness. It has a rail for fitting any of the sights
that will be needed for operations in the coming century. The CGAS
is a weapon for the man in the field irrespective of environment, be
it arid desert, humid jungle, tundra or the cramped conditions of military
operations in built-up areas - it can even be used by attack divers.
For the commercial market there is the
CG 2000 hunting rifle which is marketed by the subsidiary company Winscan
AB.
THE Ak5 ASSAULT RIFLE
The world-renowned Carl-Gustaf multipurpose
weapon has been manufactured by Bofors Carl Gustaf AB since 1948. This
highly effective system is now marketed by Anti Armor Systems, a division
of Bofors AB at Karlskoga. Both these systems are still in service
and Bofors Carl Gustaf is responsible for any required renovation.
Since the middle of the 1980s the Ak5 assault rifle has been manufactured
under license from Belgium for the Swedish Defense forces.
CGA5, C2 AND LSW
The latest development is a family of assault
rifles. The members of the family are named CGA5, C2 and LSW. Each
has a caliber of 5.56 mm and is intended for the export market. A rail
has been fitted to each weapon to simplify the mounting of advanced
sighting aids, such as image intensifiers, laser pointers, aim points
and magnifying optics. There is also a reserve sight with improved
capacity for combat during the hours of darkness. As an ergonomic priority,
an extendable shoulder support that is easily adaptable to the soldiers
need when using magnifying optics has been developed. The telescopic
sight can be adjusted for optimized effect. The C2 (see picture) is
the shortest weapon of the family. It is primarily intended for personnel
who have another type of main weapon and for non-combat troops.
The LSW is a light support weapon with a
heavy barrel for a high level of firing endurance. It can be fitted
with a standard magazine or drum magazine.
